These act almost like your standard hot water cylinder, except that the water is kept constantly hot using cheaper night-time gas, and is kept in the tank indefinitely, rather than getting fed to the hot water taps. This is so the hot water itself can heat up the mains water coming into the boiler, thus saving energy.
